Black Mountain

If you are headed to the mountains to get yourself a tree for the holidays, do yourself a favor and make a stop at Black Mountain. I discovered this gem of a town completely by accident, and plan on making a stop here any time I find myself near exit 65 on I-40.
My introduction to the features of Black Mountain started with the eclectic-looking coffee and tea house, Ja Vin, which is a great place to start window shopping. The next stop in town has to be….well, town, where you can spend hours walking in some interesting stores. Even if you don’t buy anything, you will be impressed by the variety of goodies for sale: mandolins, used books, hiking maps, moose paraphernalia, pottery, natural foods, and, for those of us inclined to indulge our sweet teeth, don’t forget the chocolate shop. (Seriously, why did it take me so long to find this great town?!)
Tack on a walk around Lake Tomahawk and you’ll find yourself a newly converted fan of Black Mountain.
