Raleigh Undercover

In the scant few years of its existence, Kings Barcade was one of the best venues in the Triangle for independent music of all sorts. From North Carolina’s best local acts to old school punk legends to  dance parties and movie nights,  Kings was always a good good time. Though Kings is now gone (hopefully not for good), its most popular annual event, The Great Cover Up, has been resurrected thanks to Chris Tamplin over at Tir Na Nog. Every year The Cover Up would feature some of our best local bands covering an artist of their choice for a short 20 to 30 minute set. You never know what is gonna show up. Past years have seen everybody from Oasis to Sade to Minor Threat paid tribute.

Now dubbed Raleigh Undercover, 14 bands will play over the course of three nights, starting January 30th. Though most of the acts are keeping their covered band a secret, the sheer variety of bands playing guarantees a good time. Left Outlet normaly plays mid 90s style alternative rock that ranges from Nick Cave to Sugar. The typical Hearts and Daggers show inspires bar fights with their biting outlaw country. Even the wildly popular Valient Thorr, bringers of heavy metal beards, will be there. But that’s the genius of Raleigh Undercover: you never know who is actually gonna show up.

Here is the lineup:
