Inspiration: Adrienne Yancey

Name: Adrienne Yancey
Occupation: Graphic Designer
I’m a graphic designer by day. I graduated from the College of Design in 2006. I started as an intern at Red Hat later that year, and have been there ever since. I work with a great group of people—Brand, Communications & Design—that really care about what they do.
I’m inspired by…
- Details.
- Line drawings.
- Typopgraphy.

- Layers!
- Making Things.
- My macro Lens

- Traveling to new places. I studied in London for a semester in college & fell in love with European design.
- Food. Sometimes I buy fruits and vegetables because of their visual qualities.
- Colour. I fill bowls in the kitchen with orange, purple, yellow to purple bell peppers in late summer. Rows of tomatoes line the cabinets. I like to eat colorful foods (you sneak in more nutrients that way).
- Books. I love the tactile quality of paper. Anything by Alice Waters or Michael Pollan. I’m currently reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Deborah Madison’s Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone is fantastic.
- Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Chuck Close. I’m always amazed by their work.
- Afternoons drinking coffee & finding hidden gems amongst the book shelves at Reader’s Corner.
- Gourmet magazine. I read it cover to cover each month.

- Photo & food blogs like 101cookbooks.com, orangette.blogspot.com & http://3191.visualblogging.com/
- Natural light. I love the way it lights up my kitchen in the morning with my cat, Fiona, perched in the window.
- Biking through Raleigh. You see the city in a new way.
- Music. Sigur Ros, Rosebuds, Bon Iver, Andrew Bird, The Stars.
- People that support the local economy. Every little bit matters.
- My many talented friends & family
Over the past few years I’ve realized I have another passion that has become a motif throughout my work—food. I started a blog several months ago as a way to document what I was eating and why. I want to change the relationship people have with food. http://adrienneats.blogspot.com/

Adrienne…Don’t take this as a “line” as I just wanted to say something positive without coming across as mawkish. Your portrait there on the March 2nd blog “Inspiration” makes you look as cute as a button. Your blog itself truly is an inspiration and I wish to you every success that you seek.

P.S. This isn’t a “line drawing as you said you enjoy, but…it does have some lines…;) Have a great day! http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldrebel/3448030497/
