Farm to Fork

Coming up on Sunday June 14th is an awesome event called the Farm to Fork Picnic. The event showcases triangle and piedmont farmers and chefs and promises to delight with a magnificent array of great local food. To whet your appetite:

The season’s first field-ripened tomatoes, heritage pasture-raised pork including whole hog BBQ, Tuscan-style porchetta and carnitas, a North Carolina shrimp boil, artisanal foods including farmstead cheese, pickles, preserves, breads and cured meat, Monterrey-style cabrito with homemade tortillas, all-local sno-cones, spit-roasted lamb, herb sorbets, grilled pizzas and flatbreads made with vegetables grown in the field next door, the last strawberries of the year, and much more!

There are over 70 participants, including many of the region’s best farms, restaurants, and artisans. To name just a few:
Cane Creek Farm, Celebrity Goat Dairy, Chapel Hill Creamery, Coon Rock Farm, Counter Culture Coffee, Durham Inner-city Gardeners at SEEDS, Elaine’s on Franklin, Four Square, Fullsteam Brewery, Glasshalfull, Harland’s Creek Farm, Haw River Wine Man, Herons, Jujube, Lantern, Lil’ Farm, Neal’s Deli, Panciuto, Panzanella, Peregrine Farm, Perry-winkle Farm, Piedmont Biofarm, Piedmont, Poole’s Diner, Scratch Bakery, Timberwood Organics, Toast, Triple B Farms, and Watts Grocery. And, that’s not all - there will be music and fun for the whole family! Activities for the kids include sack races, a honey-bee demonstration, goats, rabbits and chickens, and tours of the farm.

The picnic will be held at the WC Breeze family farm near Hillsborough. Tickets are $50/person, but it’s an all-you-can eat extravaganza, and kids under 12 are free. Proceeds will benefit farmer apprentice programs sponsored by the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) and PLANT at Breeze Farm Enterprise Incubator program.
