Right now I am really enjoying the work of Asheville printmaker and painter Lauren Scanlon. In describing her latest body of work, Scanlon states, “My work is about storytelling and the piecing together of parts. I’m drawn towards descriptions of liminal spaces and thresholds - points of transformation or places in between one thing and another. I am currently using bedclothes and considering the roles of monsters and heroines in common social narratives like fairy tales and romance novels.”

Lauren’s work can be viewed in person at the
Penland Gallery, in Penland, NC, where she currently has two pieces on display. She will also have three pieces featured in the upcoming
Paper Narratives exhibition (July 24-September 5th ) at the
Abecedarian Gallery in Denver, Colorado.
If trips to Penland and Denver aren’t in your near future, you can always view more images of her work by visiting her website or blog.

Heady stuff! I love the use of bed linens and her comments about transformations and piecing together. Very cool.
