Moore Square Farmers Market, Raleigh
Support local on Wednesdays by shopping at the Moore Square Farmer’s Market. I went to the market for the first time last week during my lunch break. There are a lot of great local farms, restaurants and live music from 10:30 am until 2 pm every Wednesday.

I bought garlic flowers from Coon Rock Farm. I’ve never seen them sold anywhere, but here. Not only are they beautiful, but they pack a spicy-garlic punch for being so tiny. I put the flowers in a vase, but pinch off buds to sprinkle into salads and dishes.

La Farm Bakery is a vendor as well. I love buying baguettes to have with dinner or multi-grain loaves for tomato & cheese sandwiches. Wednesday I bought two small rolls for only .75 cent a piece. Their cookies and scones are delicious with a cup of coffee (Morning Times is just around the corner). They also sell baguette sandwiches, so you could eat lunch there too. Several other vendors also sell lunch options such as Whole Foods or local restaurants.
My purchases Wednesday totaled $5.50: a huge head of red leaf lettuce ($2), two fresh rolls ($1.50) and garlic flowers ($2). I plan to go back as often as I can. Next time I’m going to grab lunch there too.

Once a month local restaurants hold a Green plate special-using fresh vegetables and goods from the Moore Square Farmer’s Market-to increase awareness of the downtown farmer’s market. Poole’s Diner will host the next dinner on June 24th. More info here: http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/farmersmarket/events.htm
